Alvarez Footwear

Alvarez shoes is a shoe brand with a long history, however their webage is only awailable in spanish or catalan so for everyone who doesn't speak any of thoes languages I am posting translation of their history.

In the first third of the nineteenth century, the new neighborhood of Gracia, with its urbanization process is consolidated as a key element of modern Barcelona. The Gran de Gràcia street is the backbone of the new district. In this way, Manuel Alvarez Ferrandis found the brand. He quickly get a large clientele from Barcelona that appreciates the craftsmanship of his workshop. Women's fashion evolves linked to social recognition. George Sand was strolling through Paris with pants and men's shoes, while Balmoral boots of Queen Victoria of England created trend.

In 1878 the brand found an ideal location for business beside the future Dynastic square opposite the railway station of Sarria. His son, Manuel Alvarez Tost, will implement the project and continue the shoemaking workshop. The new building opens onto a large courtyard surrounded by palm trees. A shadow grows the garden admiring customers when they visit the store and while shoes are tried. Outdoor life and sport inspired Coco Chanel for her designs. The first shoes of the French designer  bicolor, carry the strip of the famous Merceditas.

After the Civil War Footwear Alvarez stops making shoes but the store gets a new impetus. The family business continued under the direction of sisters Alvarez Brosa, Amalia and Mercedes, who come into contact with the top industrialists of Mallorca and Levante. At that time the cork soles or spelled soles  were nesesery as a fashion element and in the second half of the twentieth century, women opt for comfort. The Oxford shoes with Cuban heel which popularized Eleanor Roosevelt become element of female dress.

Creator of the current line, Mercedes Alvarez focuses on offering high-end footwear for women, with a large warranty of sizes. From the sixties Footwear Alvarez follows the latest fashion trends. The Alvarez sisters travel to Paris, London, Milan and Lyon where they contact the designers and brands of the footwear industry. Creativity, quality and comfort define the establishment, currently under the direction of Rosa and Roberto Alvarez del Llano.

Nudie Jeans - Brand for jeans lovers

Jeans are the basic garment in our wardrobe so I decided to write also about them. Their history is very long and before entering to everyone's wardrobe they were worn only by workers becasue or the strong fabric they are made of.

Nudie Jeans is a Swedish fashion brand founded in 1999 by Maria Erixsson, who was the designer of Lee, and Palle Stenberg, who had worked for Levi Strauss. It is a brand focused on the denim with a rock’n roll classic style. Nudie Jeans is not only representing clothes and denim, but also a lifestyle, a way of thinking and acting. That’s why the key differentiation point of Nudie Jeans is the using of organic materials and it’s involved in the 3R environmental rule: repair, reuse and recycle.

Nudie philosophy is based on The Naked Truth about the denim, this defence that the more old and worn that is the jean, the more character and authenticity will have.

THE NAKED TRUE ABOUT DENIM
“YOUR JEANS GO
WHERE YOU GO.
THEY LIVE YOUR LIFESTYLE.
THEY GET ABRASIONS
AND SCARS.
AND THEY BLEED.
JUST LIKE YOU.”

My feeling after entering the store, in the Gracia nearborhood in Barcelona, was that the brand is alternative and cool, however style of the jeans is very classc so you can pair them with everything.

If you need a good and stylish pair of jeans you have to visit Nudie Jeans.

Como Agua De Mayo

Butique located in the old part of the city- Born and Gotic, very centric, if you are visiting the most popular places in Barcelona like. La Rambla, La barceloneta, Passeig de Gracia; it's easy to reach the store.

In Como Agua De Mayo you can find a lot of good quality clothes, shoes and accessories. If you are looking for a cocktail dress - this is the place to find one. My favorite are the shoes, maybe because I love shoes.... I found there those beutifull and comfortable shoes from independent designer from Denmark - Emma GO.

Usually in the boutique all the pieces are unique so you are sure that no one will have same, there are 1 or 2 same garments. The clothes are perfect for everyday, when you need something comfortable and with good quality fabric.
